From Brothers to Builders: The Origins of Morgan & Holmes

In the spring of 2019, twenty Black and Brown men—many of them brothers by education and experience from Morgan State University—came together with a common goal: to shift the narrative around wealth, ownership, and financial power in their communities. The idea was rooted in tradition but fueled by modern ambition.

Drawing inspiration from the West African concept of the sou-sou—a rotating savings system that emphasizes trust, community, and shared responsibility—we decided to forge our own path. Instead of rotating payouts to individuals, we pooled our capital and invested it collectively. The result was Morgan & Holmes, LLC, a modern investment club built on legacy, accountability, and strategic growth.

Since our founding on May 1, 2019, we’ve evolved from twenty to twelve dedicated members and one strategic advisor, operating across five states: Connecticut, New York, Maryland, Georgia, and Texas. We've made private investments, entered the stock market, and are now expanding into real estate. This blog reflects on that journey—the vision that sparked it, the trust that sustains it, and the purpose that drives us forward.
